Venture capital-backed investment in Canadian FinTech's demonstrated significant growth in 2016 (+35% VYA), while the U.S. and UK demonstrated considerable declines (-30% and -35% VYA respectively). Market certainty is believed to be the driver. The U.S. election and Brexit caused uncertainty in U.S. and UK. Conversely, Canada was seen as a relatively small market with great test/piloting capabilities, and infrastructure. While VC's have heightened interest in Canadian FinTech's, they are focusing on those with a strong potential for international expansion.
